Seismic Design of Buckling-Restrained
Braced Frames

Buckling-Restrained Braced Frames (BRBFs) are a new steel seismic-load-resisting system that has found use in the western United States because of its efficiency and its promise of seismic performance far superior to that of conventional braced frames.

The mission of the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) is to determine rapidly the location and size of all destructive earthquakes worldwide and to immediately disseminate this information to concerned national and international agencies, scientists, and the general public.

Other buckling restrained brace systems include CoreBrace and Nippon Steel’s unbonded brace. Other lateral systems include base isolation, friction dampers, special moment frames (SMF), special concentric base frame (SCBF), eccentric brace frame (EBF), SMF shear wall and hysteresis dampers.
